 Hello Spartanburg, my name is Mike Hall, owner of Carpe DM Products, an SEO/Web Design/Lead Generation company here in Spartanburg. In this article I am announcing the launch of this new site called, The Spartanburg Review! Before I get into the reasons why I decided to do this website and what will be found on this site, I need to first give you a little history of myself and my company, Carpe DM Products! My Journey From Restaurant Manager To Business OwnerFrom a young age I knew I wanted to manage businesses! I started working at the age of 12 with a paper route back in my home town of Peoria, Il. At the age of 14 I started my first 'job' at a local dairy dream ice cream stand that sold cones, shakes, hot dogs, burgers, etc. Being in a state that has pretty harsh Winters, this placed closed during the Winter, so I would get another job during the Winter and go back when they re-opened in the Spring. One Winter, at the age of 17, I took a job with Hardee's corporation as a cook. When the dairy dream re-opened I worked both jobs and was still in high school. Eventually, the job schedules conflicted and I had to make a decision. I left the dairy dream and stayed with Hardees. Before I was old enough to handle equipment that 'minors' can't handle, I was promoted to an hourly manager. I graduated high school and started at the local community college the following Fall. My area of study was business management. Unfortunately, I got sick and was out of school for less than a week. When I came back, I was so far behind that there was no way to catch up with my school work, so I quit. I figured I was already living business management, so why study it? Fast forward 6 years and I wanted to move to South Carolina to be with my brother and watch his young boys grow up. So I transferred from Hardee's Food Systems to Spartan Foods Hardee's. I worked with them until 1992 and decided to try something other than restaurant management. I took a job in the insurance business as a salesman. This didn't work out, I had no sales experience and hated it. So I took a job with Burger King and started what would be a 24 year career. I held many positions over the years, Assistant Manager, Restaurant Manager, Training Manager. This career taught me what I had always wanted to do, be my own boss. In 2009, I decided to go back to school because I saw that the computer industry was the way of the future and I loved computers. I got my BA in Web Design/Internet Marketing. In 2011, I started Mike's Computer Services and continued to work my full time job. Web Design was one of the services that Mike's Computer Services offered. In 2016, I realized that less and less people were not having their computers repaired. With the cost of parts and labor, it was more cost effective to buy a new computer. Once again, I had a decision to make. That's when Carpe DM Products was born. I saw that web design and online businesses were the future, and I wanted to be a part of that! So, in June of 2016 I left my job and began building Carpe DM Products. How The Spartanburg Review Came AboutWhat I've learned over the years is that business owners are a different breed. They have a vision of something outside the normal 'job' life. They all have a story, their "why!" So, The Spartanburg Review will give them a chance to share their "why" with the city of Spartanburg! 2019 will mark 30 years I have been in Spartanburg, and it thrills me to be able to share with you the dreams of our local business owners and what there "why" is for starting their business.
